BOSTON, September 12, 2017: This November the New England Law | Boston community will gather for the Dean’s Reception, a celebration of a graduate who has contributed significantly to the development, reputation, and spirit of the institution.

Dean John F. O’Brien, Chairman Martin C. Foster, and the Board of Trustees are pleased to announce the 2017 honoree: Massachusetts Lieutenant Governor Karyn Polito, New England Law Class of 1991.

As an advocate for survivors of sexual assault and domestic violence, champion of local business and sustainability, and dedicated public servant to the citizens of Massachusetts, Lieutenant Governor Polito is an exemplary choice for this occasion.

About Lt. Governor Polito

Karyn Polito assumed the office of the Lieutenant Governor of Massachusetts on January 8, 2015. She began her public service in local government, serving as a member of the Shrewsbury Board of Selectmen and then as a state representative for five terms.

Lt. Governor Polito chairs the Community Compact Cabinet, elevating the administration’s partnerships with local government and promoting best practices. As chair of the Seaport Economic Council, Lt. Governor Polito works with coastal communities to leverage their unique assets to drive sustainable growth.

Preventing sexual assault and domestic violence have been priorities for Lt. Governor Polito, and she now serves as chair of the Governor’s Council to address these important issues.

Lt. Governor Polito is also co-chair of the STEM Advisory Council, working to ensure that all students have access to STEM courses with the goal of preparing them for careers and closing the skills gap.

She is a lifelong resident of Shrewsbury where she lives with her husband and two children.
