Paul-Johan Jean advises clients on data privacy and IP-centric transactional matters through his firm, Sphaerist Advisory. Prior to establishing Sphaerist in 2017, Paul co-founded GTC Law Group, which he helped grow into a leading national IP-strategy and M&A boutique. He served as its managing partner for eleven years and was a partner in the firm’s Business & Technology Transactions and Privacy & Security practice groups. He also regularly advised the firm’s M&A practice group. Prior to GTC, Paul was a member of the Corporate and M&A practice groups at Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom. He began his career practicing securities litigation, also at Skadden, after having clerked for Justice Sherman D. Horton at the New Hampshire Supreme Court.
In law school, Paul was treasurer for the Asian Pacific American Law Students Association and worked for U.S. Senator John F. Kerry, the Washington Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights and Urban Affairs, and D.C. Superior Court Judge Lee F. Satterfield. He has served on the Advisory Board of the Massachusetts Appleseed Center for Law and Justice and the Board of Directors of the New England chapter of the Swedish-American Chamber of Commerce. Paul is admitted in New York and Massachusetts and has received privacy and security training and certifications from the International Association of Privacy Professionals, the SANS Institute, and the Global Information Assurance Certification organization.
