Joseph Galvin is the First Assistant Clerk-Magistrate of the Waltham District Court. He has been employed by the Massachusetts Trial Court since 2011. Galvin is an experienced trial attorney having tried over 40 civil and criminal jury cases in both the district and superior court. He has a comprehensive understanding of Massachusetts' Rules of Criminal and Civil Procedure, Evidence, as well as Summary Process and Small Claims, which he relies on daily to serve both attorneys and the public at the Waltham District Court. He brings to his work the understanding that almost everyone appearing in district court is under immense stress.
Galvin describes the impact getting to know people's stories has had on his career, and feels motivated to make the court system a less intimidating or confusing place. Most recently he contributed to the implementation of virtual court hearings at the Waltham District Court, helping to navigate the logistical and additional challenges brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic.
