Shilina Chatterjee Brown is an assistant general counsel with the Tennessee Department of Commerce and Insurance, where she handles regulatory compliance issues and litigation. Her daily work includes providing legal advice on a wide range of regulatory and compliance matters. She handles litigation for all of the department’s 26 regulatory boards, provides day-to-day legal advice to program directors, and handles appeals filed with the commissioner, Chancery Court, and Court of Appeals, among other legal duties.
Brown has extensive experience with utility rate cases, utility law, regulatory and compliance law, and administrative law. Before her employment with the Tennessee Regulatory Authority, Brown served as legal counsel for the Fiscal Review Committee of the Tennessee General Assembly. She also served as assistant attorney general for the Tennessee Attorney General’s Office.
She is a founding board member and treasurer of the Tennessee Asian Pacific American Bar Association. She is involved as an advisory board member of the Governor’s Books from Birth Foundation and the Imagination Library of Middle Tennessee.
At New England Law | Boston, she served as technical case and note editor of the New England Journal on Criminal and Civil Confinement and received the journal’s Outstanding Editor Award. She also received the Women Achievers Award from the Women’s Law Caucus.
